Tambourines to Glory
308 West 133 Street New York
Langston Hughes' gospel musical Tambourines to Glory returns to Harlem, where it all began. One of the seminal figures of the Harlem Renaissance, Hughes was one of America's great poets, although he also achieved success in novels and works for the stage. Tambourines to Glory is one of those dramatic works, a passionate, spirited comedy-drama that follows the lives of Laura Reed and Essie Bell Johnson, two women who decide to start their own gospel church on a street corner in Harlem and end up battling against the Devil himself.
