La Boheme

La Boheme

Metropolitan Opera House
10 Lincoln Center Plaza New York

A passionate tale of romance and youthful idealism set in early-1800s Paris, Puccini's most famous opera, La Bohème, follows Rodolfo -- a struggling poet -- and Mimi --a shy seamstress -- as they meet and fall in love, despite the hardscrabble existence of life in the city's Latin Quarter. Financial woes, jealous exes and Mimi's increasingly worrisome sickness drive a dramatic plot filled with sensual arias that continues to resonate more than 100 years after its premiere. Composed by operatic godfather Giacomo Puccini with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa, the Metropolitan Opera brings back the classic La Bohème, again with Franco Zeffirelli's colorful, minutely detailed and popular production.
