In February 1923, audiences witnessed Broadway's first lesbian kiss at the English-language premiere of God of Vengeance, a play by Yiddish writer Sholem Asch. Days later, the NYPD Vice Squad arrested and prosecuted the entire cast on obscenity charges. Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel (How I Learned to Drive) turned this true story into an acclaimed off-Broadway production. And now, after a 40-year career, she'll make her Broadway debut when it comes to the Cort Theater with the celebrated Off-Broadway cast, including stars Katrina Lenk (Once) and Adina Verson (Him). Timely for its depiction of the challenges faced by new American immigrants and hailed for its klezmer-inspired original score, Indecent was named a Critics' Pick by The New York Times, which called it "a superbly realized, remarkably powerful new play."
