Beauty Shop at Kings Theatre - Brooklyn

Known as "The Godfather of Black Theatre," actor-turned-playwright Shelley Garrett has created a fictional beauty shop where the gossip is juicier, the claws are sharper and the personalities are bigger than any ordinary corner shop. For 30 years, Beauty Shop has been performing to packed theaters and standing ovations. Why? Because Garrett knows how to mix reality show-level drama with side-splitting comedy for a piece of over-the-top entertainment in a familiar setting. In the latest version of the long-running show, the name of the shop is now Divas Unleashed, and it's a name that's 100% on point. There's Laquisha, the ghetto-fab receptionist, Champagne, the manicurist (portrayed by the star of VH1's Basketball Wives L.A., Jackie Christie) and the flamboyant Chris, plus the array of wacky folks dropping in for one reason or another. There's so much going on as the ladies try to work together amid gossip, backstabbing and he-said, she-said drama, that the laughs never end.
