Antigone

Antigone

Davenport Theatre
354 West 45th Street New York

In the aftermath of a civil war over the throne of Thebes, two belligerent brothers are dead, and the newly anointed ruler, Creon, has decreed one of them a traitor whose body shall remain unburied. Antigone, sister to the slain brothers, openly defies Creon's orders, setting the stage for a battle of wills that pits national allegiance against family loyalty. This modern adaptation of this Sophocles' classic examines how a Greek tragedy fits into contemporary society, and whether you would actually be surprised to hear those kinds of stories on the nightly news today. Enjoy Antigone on the stage of the Loft at the Davenport Theatre in New York.
