Antigone

Antigone

The Studio Theatre - Theatre Row
410 West 42nd Street New York

A drama exploring the power of political protest and civil disobedience in a time of tyranny, Jean Anouilh's take on Sophocles' tragedy was written during the Nazi occupation of France, turning her heroine Antigone into a symbol of defiance. The story of a woman who risks defying a king in order to give her soldier brother the proper burial he deserves now returns, as timely as ever, in a new off-Broadway production from Fusion Theatre at the Studio Theatre. Award-winning Irish actress Eilin O'Dea stars in the title role of this show that merges the chorus line from Honegger's opera with beloved arias performed by the central characters for a powerful theatrical experience.
