At the Wedding Reviews
The New York Times- Highly Recommended
"...Though it's not by a long shot the first time a comedy has mined the nuptials-with-an-ex-to-grind setup, Bryna Turner's "At the Wedding," which opened on Monday at the Claire Tow Theater, offers a fresh and trenchant take on the genre. And in Carlo, the bruised heart of the story, it offers the actor Mary Wiseman, with her curly red mop piled high like a lesbian Lucy, a brilliant showcase for her split-level comic genius."

"...One other thing At the Wedding does get right is the lack of a clean conclusion. Carlo doesn't suddenly overcome her sorrow or forever resign herself to it within the play's hour; she simply walks away with lots to think about. The same can't be said for the audiences, unfortunately, unless you've never seen a rom-com. But there's a fun time to be had at this wedding nonetheless."
Theatrely- Not Recommended
"...But not to over-politicize Bryna Turner’s At the Wedding, which sets its humble sights merely on entertaining. Unfortunately, on that front, it fails. The dusty sitcom structure is set at a terminally Northern Californian straight wedding, where the bride’s ex-girlfriend goes on a boozy downward spiral. Other guests chime in, offering lukewarm advice and reciting too-relevant poetry. The lead, Mary Wiseman, is not to blame; giving her all but burdened with embodying the most insufferable character onstage this season. Her self-deprecating humor is straight from a 2011 Urban Outfitters rack, and the characters around her are as stock-grown as they come."
New York Stage Review- Recommended
"...At the Wedding is part of Lincoln Center Theater's LCT3 New Artists/New Audiences series, presented at their intimate penthouse space ("All Tix $30!" say the ads.) The play, at this early stage, is perhaps not quite fully realized; even so, laughter constantly flows, quite often outrageously so, through 70 lively minutes. Making play, playwright, and performers worth a visit to Lincoln Center. No gifts, please."
