This funny and touching one-woman show, based on real events, tells the tale of Trisha Lee, a Christian widow whose life is turned upside-down with her teenage daughter's pronouncement that she is "gender queer." Already struggling to swallow this surprising news, the further fact that her daughter is planning to start up a chapter of the Gay and Straight Alliance at the local high school is of particular concern to this shellshocked mother, as their small Texas town isn't exactly renowned for its acceptance of diversity. Inevitably, violence and anger erupt, and Trisha must forego her previously held convictions for the sake of her daughter, sparking a journey from ignorance to advocacy as persecution and prejudice threaten to tear her family apart. Written and performed by Elise Forier Edie, this solo theatre piece is an award-winning glimpse into one woman's poignant and often hilarious struggle to make sense of what is best for her daughter.
