The Other Mozart

The Other Mozart

Players Theatre
115 MacDougal Street New York

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart wasn't the only genius in the family. His sister, Nannerl, was also a keyboard prodigy and composer, who toured Europe with her brother to equal acclaim. So why has she been forgotten? Using lines and stories pulled from the Mozart family's humorous and heartbreaking letters, Little Matchstick Factory brings Nannerl's story to the stage in a beautiful, full-sensory experience solo show. The set is made up entirely of a stunning 18-foot dress. Composers from Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival have written original music to bring Nannerl's world to life, from clavichords and music boxes to teacups and fans. Sweet perfume wafts from the stage through clouds of dusting powder for an opulent, sensual experience that transports the audience into a world of outsized beauty and delight -- but also of overwhelming restrictions and prejudice. Discover this incredible forgotten historical figure as The Other Mozart comes to New York's Players Theatre.
