The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby

The Heights Players
26 Willow Place Brooklyn

The Heights Players bring the New York premiere of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby to the stage in the only adaptation approved by the Fitzgerald estate. Jay Gatsby is a man so wealthy, so driven and so wracked with feeling, the epithet "Great" feels insufficient. Like Hamlet or Holden Caulfield, Gatsby seems to reflect deep truths about what it means to be human. No wonder he keeps popping up, dressed to the nines and totally mysterious, first in Fitzgerald's classic novel, and later in movie adaptations starring Robert Redford (1974) and Leonardo DiCaprio (2013). Now he appears on stage in a sparkling adaptation from Simon Levy. In this portrait of Roaring '20s decadence, Nick Carraway, a young newcomer to Long Island, is drawn into a world of danger when he falls in with Gatsby, an enigmatic millionaire pursuing the married Daisy Buchanan.
