Stars of Broadway's Jersey Boys, Beautiful: The Carole King Musical and Motown: The Musical gather for a special concert celebrating the genre that made all those shows possible, The Doo Wop Project. The show begins where the music itself has its origins -- on the street corners of American cities right after World War II. Young men would gather on the sidewalks and sing a cappella, mimicking the sounds of instruments with nonsense words: the bass was bom-bom-bom, the guitar was shang-a-lang and the brass riffs were doooo-wop-wop. These impromptu concerts gave rise to groups like the Crests, Belmonts and Flamingos. Later, doo-wop would influence everything and everyone from the Motown sound to Micheal Jackson and Amy Winehouse. Now The Doo Wop Project tells the entire so-crazy-it-can-only-be-true tale through song at Queensborough Performing Arts Center.
