Tambourines to Glory

Tambourines to Glory

Harlem Repertory Theatre
240 E. 123rd Street New York

Langston Hughes' gospel musical Tambourines to Glory makes its way to the Harlem Repertory Theatre. One of the seminal figures of the Harlem Renaissance, Hughes was one of America's great poets, although he also achieved success in novels and works for the stage. Tambourines to Glory is one such dramatic stage work -- a passionate, spirited dramatic-comedy with a gospel and jazz score composed by Andre Danek that follows the lives of Laura Reed and Essie Bell Johnson, two women who decide to start their own gospel church on a street corner in Harlem and end up battling against the Devil himself.
