Rigoletto

Rigoletto

Metropolitan Opera House
10 Lincoln Center Plaza New York

Boasting two of opera's all-time favorite arias ("Questa o quella" and "La donna e mobile"), Giuseppe Verdi's Rigoletto also spotlights one of opera's most complex title characters. This tragic story of the curse laid upon the hunchbacked jester, his daughter Gilda and the lecherous duke he serves is based on a play by Victor Hugo. Metropolitan Opera's skilled singers and the iconic Opera House in New York offer a new twist on the classic, setting it in Las Vegas in 1960, a time and place with surprising parallels to the decadence of the original Renaissance setting. Rigoletto will be sung in Italian with English titles.
