Macbeth

State Theatre
15 Livingston Avenue New Brunswick

Experience the production The New York Times calls "magnetic and unexpectedly moving," when The Acting Company, the country's most acclaimed classical-theater touring ensemble, brings its exciting new Macbeth to New Brunswick's State Theatre. Backstage superstition has long held that Shakespeare's bloodiest tragedy is cursed, since the Bard supposedly used real witches' spells in the text -- and thus, it became bad luck to utter the name of the work inside the theater. In response, it's often referred to as "The Scottish Play," the intensely dramatic story of an ambitious general spurred on by his wife and three witches, who murders the popular King Duncan and must then contend with his conscience and a growing and deadly conspiracy.
