Macbeth

Macbeth

Players Theatre
115 MacDougal Street New York

The darkly decadent last days of the Jazz Age provide the perfect backdrop for the "black and deep desires" of Macbeth in The Theatre Project's new production of Shakespeare's tragedy. Vaudeville and burlesque performers transport you back to the hidden excesses of the Prohibition era. There you will encounter a Macbeth as comfortable at a speakeasy as up on the heath. Enmeshed in a haunting and deadly conspiracy, he fights his own conscience and many of his closet friends in an underhanded battle for the crown. Egged on by an ambitious wife and influenced by a trio of witches, he learns that a throne achieved by murder can only be maintained by more bloodshed.
