Les Fetes de l'Hymen et de l'Amour ou Les Dieux d'Egypte

Lincoln Center Theater
150 West 65th Street New York

Opera Lafayette opens its 20th season in grand style, with the first fully staged performance of Baroque composer Jean-Philippe Rameau's opera-ballet since 1766. Based on Egyptian mythology, Les Fêtes de l'Hymen et de l'Amour, ou Les Dieux d'Égypte (The Celebration of Marriage and Love, or The Gods of Egypt), stars Maltese soprano Claire Debono and tenor Jeffrey Thompson as guides on a romantic journey through ancient cultures. Seven different ballets in Baroque, Indian and contemporary dance styles are woven throughout this fascinating French-language work, and each act is directed by one of three contributing choreographers: Catherine Turocy of the New York Baroque Dance Company, Anuradha Nehru of Kalanidhi Dance and Seán Curran of the Seán Curran Company.
