King Lear

The Secret Theatre
4402 23rd Street Queens

Believed by many to be Shakespeare's greatest play, King Lear depicts an aging monarch's descent into madness as his family and country are torn apart by the ambition and jealousy of his children. Director Alberto Bonilla, known for his timely twists on the classic Shakespearean dramas, transports this classic into a world of New York City's wealthy elite real estate titans. King Lear, suffering the beginnings of Alzheimer's disease, must divide his empire amongst his feuding children while also wrestling with his own mortality. This new production from The Secret Theatre features Obie Award winner Austin Pendleton as King Lear.
