Karen Finley: Written in Sand

Karen Finley: Written in Sand

Baruch Performing Arts Center
55 Lexington Ave New York

Synonymous with performance art, Karen Finley's award-winning theatrical pieces have been celebrated -- and often considered controversial -- since the late '70s. During the '80s and '90s, Finley wrote and performed a great deal of work centering around AIDS, which was, at the time, an untreatable disease that was claiming the lives of many of her friends. Written in Sand presents a blend of pieces originally performed during those emotionally wrought times, as well as other pieces that were written then but are only now seeing the light of the stage for the very first time. Between Finley's pieces, musical selections originally written or performed by musicians whose lives were claimed by AIDS will be performed by jazz artist Paul Nebenzahl.
