Hansel and Gretel

Hansel and Gretel

Metropolitan Opera House
10 Lincoln Center Plaza New York

An opera as delicious as a gingerbread house -- and as magical as the witch who lives inside it -- Hansel and Gretel has delighted music lovers of all ages since Engelbert Humperdinck first composed it in 1893. No matter how familiar you may be with this story of two siblings wandering through an enchanted forest, this "fairy-tale opera" still has the power to charm and elicit emotion. In fact, Humperdinck's "Evening Benediction" (Abendsegen) is considered one of the most touching pieces of music ever composed for stage. So follow these two intrepid youngsters as they battle a witch with a truly "childish" appetite amidst a whimsical setting of suit-clad trees, giant chefs and an industrial kitchen in this performance, presented by The Metropolitan Opera, that's sung entirely in English and perfect for the whole family.
