Cymbeline

Cymbeline

Theatre 80
80 St. Mark's Place New York

With an evil queen plotting murder, a brave rescue by three mountain cave-dwellers, a pair of ghosts and even a headless man, Cymbeline is a folk tale that would make even the Brothers Grimm envious. One of Shakespeare's last works, Cymbeline is a no-holds-barred epic that follows the adventures of the brave princess Imogen, who, after being exiled from her father's court and falsely accused of adultery, sets out on a treacherous and miraculous journey to reclaim her good name and reunite with her true love. Full of comedy, drama, action and romance, this play uncovers the resiliency of love and its conquest over chaos. This production by Art for Progress at Theatre 80 uses the classic language of Shakespeare, but retells the Bard's "fairytale" through a modern lens. You'll be transported to a world floating between the blurred morality and frenetic energy of a Vegas-like kingdom and the stark, colorful beauty of the American Southwest.
