Captain Boycott

Captain Boycott

Theater for the New City
155 First Ave New York

With striking imagery, masks and giant papier-mâché puppets, the renowned Bread & Puppet Theater tell a powerful tale about the fight against oppression in three chapters. Chapters one and two set the story with a modern retelling of Antigone and a history of the horizontalists' economic philosophy. The third chapter deals with occurrences of military and economic oppression. Captain Boycott is part of Bread and Puppet's three-week residency in NYC and is performed in collaboration with community volunteers. Sourdough rye will be served and cheap art will be available for purchase after the show. Led by artist Peter Schumann, Bread and Puppet first made its mark in the experimental theater movement of the '60s and '70s in New York and is now thriving in its home in Vermont.
