This hour-long work-in-progress from the riveting performer Dikran Tulaine (G.I. Joe: Retaliation) examines one of Shakespeare's most controversial plays through the lens of a major modern-day trial and subsequent media frenzy. Scholars through the centuries have fiercely debated Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice over its anti-Semitic portrayal of the villainous Shylock and over the sexual preference of Antonio, who is willing trade a pound of his own flesh to the merchant to save his friend Bassanio. As the deal for Antonio's flesh unfolds in Antonio & Shylock: Monsters and the trial ensues, videographers greedily capture the action over two live feeds, zooming in on the drama's implicit anti-gay and anti-Jewish bigotry and proving the timeless relevancy of this centuries-old tale with crackling urgency.
