A Celebration of Sami Culture and Arts
58 Park Avenue New York
New York's Scandinavia House hosts a two-day performing and visual arts festival to celebrate the Sámi culture, which represents the northernmost indigenous peoples of Europe. The festival will address the political and social issues facing groups that range from Norway to Russia. The talents, dreams, perspectives and passions of Sámi people will be featured in the forms of theater, dance, storytelling and traditional joik, or song. You'll also hear poetry, see movies from leading Sámi filmmakers and gain exposure to the region's wealth of indigenous actors, choreographers, playwrights and other artists.
